The only thing now preventing Derby Playhouse from coming out of Administration at the end of January is the withholding of the grant from Arts Council England, East Midlands. Derby Playhouse is requesting that this grant (ring-fenced for produced theatre in Derby), be given back to the Playhouse.
The Playhouse are appealing on the basis that ACE EM’s reasons for withdrawing the grant is flawed and/or out of date and because, as they are now funding excellence, the theatre’s artistic record speaks for itself.
Please write to ACE EM Chief Executive, Laura Dyer, to express your concern at:

we must keep Derby Playhouse open I purchased my season ticket yesterday.
Derby would be like No Man`s Land without a Theatre
we must get the Art Council Grant
I have attended two shows at the Derby Playhouse. “Merrily We Roll Along” was a delightfully entertaining show that I saw six times. “Moon Landing” was a stunning production. They achieved what would seem unachievable on any stage, let alone a small stage. It had been many years since I had seen a professional production in such an intimate setting and I am HOOKED. I traveled from Portland, Oregon, USA to enjoy those shows. I was unable return for Treasure Island, but I have bought a ticket in support of the Playhouse.
Derby is a warm and beautiful place and the Playhouse has brought people from all over the UK and some of us in the USA. What a wonderful and respected reputation.
I sincerely hope you consider all the Playhouse offers this community and the greater community.
Thanks kim for your kind words about Derby and its special theatre…
We’re doing all we can possibly do to preserve the lovely Playhouse for our childrens children….
Think about us tommorow (Wed) evening as some people will be holding a candle light vigil outside the Arts Council building….
We wont give up…we’ll keep fighting whatever it takes to hold onto REAL theatre in Derby ! Love Joyce x
